ABOUT THE BOOK

How to THRIVE by Building RESILIENCE:

WINNER: Best Resilience Books of 2020.

Resilience, the ability to adapt and sustain the best version of ourselves, should be deliberately developed as a way to thrive in today’s uncertain and rapidly changing world. Sadly, our educational systems are not yet equipped to teach resilience as thoughtfully or deliberately as they do maths and grammar.

Until then, it falls on us parents to help our children develop this crucial life skill. Leveraging relevant research in neuroscience and positive psychology, and drawing on insights from the leadership advisory space, this book aims to develop resilient parents able to pass these skills down to their child. Introducing a pragmatic four-step process, and packed with straightforward, practical exercises for both adults and children, How to Thrive By Building Resilience: A Guide for You and Your Child aims to create a space for reflection and the deliberate cultivation of resilience.

Whether you believe success is your child becoming CEO, an actor, an athlete, or whether you believe they should carve their own path, this book will arm you with the tools to develop the mental agility your children will need to become the best version of themselves, whatever that may be.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Belen del Amo Perez de Lara

Belen del Amo Perez de Lara is a Scottish-born Spaniard. As an only child, raised all around the world, she lived in more than twenty-one cities across four continents by the age of twenty-four. Having to rebuild her life year on year, she was faced with the loss of both her parents to cancer during key periods of her life. She used these life experiences and her professional career to codify a process, shared in this book, that helped her and others thrive in the best and worst of times.

Belen graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a triple major, Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She obtained her MS from LSE and an MBA from INSEAD. She started her career at JP Morgan, Accenture, then led commercial teams at CEB (now Gartner). After obtaining her fully funded MBA, she joined Egon Zehnder, where she specialised in the assessment of C-suite executives. Headhunted to build the Talent Management Function at George Soros’ philanthropy, Open Society Foundations, she eventually became Global Head of HR, Security and Facilities.

After her father passed away, Belen co-founded a resilience advisory firm to help executives, teams, and organisations build resilience. In 2018, she launched 3VERS, to additionally help parents and educators develop resilience in themselves and their children. Belen is a certified yoga teacher by the Yoga Alliance, a member of the British Psychological Association, has published case studies with CESEDEN (the Spanish Ministry of Defense's Think Tank) and INSEAD's Global Leadership Centre. She speaks Italian, French, Spanish, and English, and lives with her husband and two children between London and Menorca.
